Athlete Exploitation and Ethicality of Sports Firms | Research Methodology
-
Studied the interrelations of sports, poverty, race, socioeconomics, and exploitation of athletes specifically in the NCAA and NBA
-
Created research and potential study regarding the exploitation of basketball players, questioning the ethicality of sports firms, and their lack of holistic athlete support and representation
-
"This research considers the intersection of poverty, exploitation, and equity within both collegiate and professional basketball, and the level of ethicality and thus moral obligation of these firms to give back to impoverished communities and produce safer, more attainable ways to engage in basketball as a means to empower and holistically represent their athletes. Given these ideas, questions considered within this study include: (1) How many collegiate and pro-basketball athletes seek out sports as a necessity to escape poverty versus a genuine passion for sport?, (2) On average, how many athletes a year drafted into the NBA, come from communities under the poverty line?, (3) What are the demographics of these athletes coming from impoverished communities?, (4) Given data on the previous questions, what is the moral obligation of the NBA and NCAA to give back to impoverished communities, and how can this morality be measured and executed holistically?" Pro-Abortion Lobbying: It’s Trends, Patterns, and Effects on National Policy-Making | Interest Group Politics
-
Studied lobbying history, how it has evolved, the pros and cons, and how it affects policy change
-
Personally studied and wrote a research paper on the history of pro-abortion lobbying and its effects on national policy-making and congressional attention surrounding abortion
-
Included collecting and interpreting data on congressional patterns regarding abortion and researching the history of abortion as policy as well as its impact on political party platforms
-
"Furthermore, pro-abortion lobbying, on average, affects and represents more marginalized and intersectional groups, ultimately receiving less funding, more setbacks, and less opportunity. While pro-gun lobbying, on average, represents more privileged constituents and has done so for a significantly longer period of time, ultimately leading to better funding and lobbying opportunities. With the setbacks in passing pro-abortion policy has had -- being out-resourced, the detrimental effects that lack of safe access to abortion has in terms of financial stability, economically, and in regards to overall livelihood (specifically for women of color) -- the fight for safe access seems to be never ending."
